Summer of Surprises is the Dubai Summer Surprises campaign for Mercato Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road, a six week retail promotion built to move footfall through the hottest months of the Dubai year.
Every mall in the city runs a DSS promotion and every one of them says the same three things: prizes, discounts, family fun. The only way to win attention is to own a world rather than an offer. Mercato is built as an Italian Renaissance streetscape, so the campaign leaned into that fiction rather than fighting it and set the whole thing inside a Victorian circus.
The key visual is a ringmaster in a top hat riding a unicycle along a gold chain strung across the mall's own arcades, with doves breaking out of the frame and a red curtain and bunting closing the top edge. It is illustrated in aged, sun bleached colour so the artwork reads as a found circus poster, which is what gives it separation from the flat, high saturation retail advertising it sits beside.
The line is The Summer of Fun, carried by a hand drawn script, with Big Prizes! Super Surprises! Amazing Fun! doing the selling underneath. The mechanic sat in the body copy: spend AED 200 at Mercato to enter the draw for a luxury car and an all expenses paid holiday, alongside the Victorian Circus itself and a pop over fun slide inside the mall.
Art direction ran across the full media plan: a building wrap on the mall facade, street furniture and roadside six sheets, metro station lightboxes and platform tunnel posters, in mall digital screens and press. The layout was built so the ringmaster survives every crop, from a portrait metro panel to a landscape wrap two storeys high.
